St Bede’s went through the Press Cup unbeaten for a third time in four years and improved their record to 57 wins in the last 58 matches in the competition, beating Nelson 30-12 in the final. Just 21 hours after beating Nelson College, coaches Mark Vincent and Gerry Davidson had their team training ahead of this weekend’s southern region playoff game. The match was apparently far from a classic with the St Bede’s forwards dominating from the outset and providing their quick backs with plenty of chances, some of which were taken, others which were missed. Captain Shayne Anderson did a power of work at centre, while the wingers did well to finish their tries. Lock Misimoa Lamositele and blindside flanker Billy Harmon impressed too. For Nelson College, openside Steve Soper was impressive and bullocking prop Connor McKinnin-Stevenson’s runs were well worth watching.
